Hello everyone, DeathFromAbove here. Welcome to today's spell breakdown! Today, we will be talking about the last of the 3 Angels that strike fear into the hearts of many Mages. I am of course talking about Selesius, the East Wind! With no futher adu, here is the stat breakdown:
(Note: I will be mentioning several times in this breakdown both the Samandriel and Valshalla breakdowns. It is recommended that you read those first before reading this one)
Stats
Type: Creature
Subtype(s): Angel
Mana Cost: 21
Casting Type: Full Action
Range: 0-0
Target: Zone
Level: Holy 5
Armor: 1
Health: 13
Attack(s):
-Halberd
| Quick Attack | Melee | 4 Dice | Piercing +1 |
-Great Winged Wind Blast
| Full Attack | Range 0-1 | Wind | 2 Dice | d12 (7+ = Push) | Sweeping | | Unavoidable | +2 vs. Flying | Ethereal |
Trait(s): | Aegis 1 | Flying | Wind Immunity | Legendary |
She is somewhat similar to her other 2 angel compatriots and may even seem slightly weaker than Valshalla and Samandriel, but she is definitely no pushover. She has the same armor as the other 2 and slightly less health. Her traits are also identical with the substitution of Wind Immunity over Light Immunity and Lightning -2. The attacks are her main talking points.
First up is the Halberd attack. It is a quick melee attack that rolls 4 dice and has a piercing of 1. It's a decent attack. Can cause pain if rolled well. Good potential for Bear Strength. Her second attack is nothing to ignore either. Her Great Winged Wind Blast is a full attack with a range of 0-1 zones. It is a Wind based attack which would affect creatures weak to wind. Unfortunately, at this time, there are no creatures out that are specifically weak to wind. I am willing to bet in the future, weakness to wind will be a thing. The attack rolls 2 dice which isn't much. Her d12, however, can be used to surprisingly good effect if used well. On a 7+ on the d12, the defending creature is pushed in a direction of Selesius's choice. This can be very helpful in pushing away targets from your creatures. This attack is also sweeping, meaning it has the potential to target up to 2 creatures in the same zone to be attacked. It is unavoidable so defenses do not work against this attack. It is +2 vs. flying creatures which means this attack will roll 4 dice against flying units and add +2 to the d12 roll for push. Finally, it has Ethereal meaning that normal damage will be applied to attacks against incorporeal creatures or conjurations. Whew, that’s a lot of traits for an attack. To sum it up, this attack does well against flying units and can really put a damper on a creature rush from your opponent by pushing them in random directions.
For strategy, she is a very good flying defense for the Priest and Priestess. If the opponent is running a heavy flying creature spellbook, she will have a field day taking them down 2 by 2. Still expensive to get out so the same summoning options mentioned in the other 2 angel breakdowns apply to her. Either summon in round 2 or summon through the Temple of Asyra. Aside from great air defense, she isn't that much more useful.
Pros
-Very good against flying creatures
-Has the potential for pushing opponents creatures around which can stall strategies
-Built in traits of Aegis and Flying make her more difficult to kill
-If you like the Priest or Priestess, she is affordable to them
Cons
-Expensive to get out
-Mediocre starting health and armor
-Expensive to put in any other Mages spellbook that is not a Priest or Priestess
-Attacks are sub-par compared to the other Legendary Angels
Here is the summary/my opinion about these 3 Angels. Samandriel is great against Dark/Nonliving creatures. Valshalla is potent against Lightning Wizards and has the ability to be a major powerhouse. Selesius puts a stop to a flying offensive very easily. Out of the 3, I personally prefer Valshalla. She can daze and stun with relative ease, lightning attacks are ineffective against her, and her ability allows her to beef up and become a powerhouse.
Regardless, I like all 3. Together, with their unique strengths, they can be a trifecta of power that is to be feared if allowed to all be out at the same time.
I hope you enjoyed all 3 of these breakdowns. I hope to be writing more in the future if Lord0fWinter will allow it. Please let me know what you think. I enjoy hearing what anyone has to say about my reviews!
